CountiesFamilies First, a program of The Next Door, is excited to inform you about a new program for Wasco County residents made possible by the Wasco County Commission on Children and Families. Designed to reduce and prevent child abuse and neglect, our new “Expanded Home Visiting” program targets our highest-risk families with children pre-natal through age 18. Service delivery is modeled after the Healthy Start/Healthy Families Home Visiting program. However, it is “Expanded” in that it is open to families with more than one child and to families with children ages prenatal to 18. Home visits are free, voluntary, and long-term (one year or more). Only Wasco County residents are eligible, and enrollment is based on a combination of risk factors (no income restrictions). Caseloads are limited.
The program is limited to serving families with risk-factors currently associated with Wasco County child abuse cases: drug/alcohol; domestic violence, involvement with law enforcement; financial distress; new baby/pregnancy stress; parental history of abuse as a child; inadequate housing; and stressed families with 3 or more children under the age of 5. See the attached Referral Form for more risk factors that will be considered when qualifying families for Expanded Home Visiting Services.
